What's New at Savvy Gourmet

Hi everyone. Well it's been a couple of days since I last wrote...time flies by so fast it is unbelieveable. As promised I do have a new recipe to give you at the end of this blog. As of late everything makes me want a cigarette and I mean everything but I am strong enough to pull thru it smoke-free so far. Chad is doing better on the "diet" than I but still not to bad considering I'm doing both at the same time which I never dreamed I could do!!!!

Well What Do I Know Today????

Now on the business end of life...the website is picking up a little bit every day and I thank everyone very much who has ordered from reading about it here in our blogs!!

I'm not exactly sure what to write about today but I am trying to write something every day. Today, 4/20 is 28 days since I've had a cigarette. I can't believe how well my taste buds work...everything tastes so yummy and smells soooo good. Except for cigarettes really smell bad and I mean bad. Us non-smokers are obnoxious and can smell that disgusting smell a mile away and I'm not kidding. Also not kidding about this being the hardest thing that has ever been done....did I mention that after 30 some years I am doing this "cold turkey". I chew lots of gum and have found that tootsie roll pops really help. NOW for the diet part which hasn't been going to well the last couple of days. Our scale, I found, doesn't work very well because when I went to the doctor I hadn't lost as much as I thought and I got upset. All in all I am eating more, Chad and I stopped writing down what we are eating and we are getting back into it again tomorrow. We keep plugging along at it so that is all that matters. We are walking every day which is a great accomplishment since we both have pretty bad backs.

Well I guess that is about it for today. Tomorrow I will write a wonderful recipe. For wonderful Spice Blends From Around The World, Chili Peppers & Powders, Barbecue Rubs, Dried Mushrooms, Salt-Free Blends, Curries, etc.

High Bulk Index Garlic (HBI) for Stir-Fry Cooking

To make a perfect stir-fry dish try using this High Bulk Index Garlic which you can purchase from our website Savvy Gourmet Shop. 2 ozs $3.75 which is enough for many, many dishes. Just click on the link below.

FREE shipping on orders over $25.00

What is so great about this type of garlic is that it is a fast release garlic. High bulk index garlic is especially designed for quick release cooking. It is dried and cut to give the particles twice the surface space of regular dehydrated garlic. In a heated liquid, this thinner, wider cut allows 100% of the flavor to be released in about 2 minutes. Standard dehydrated garlic will take up to 30 minutes to release about 90% of its flavor. This product is perfect for sautéing and stir-frying. One medium garlic clove is equal to ¼ tsp and 2 tsp. equals one fresh garlic bulb. Add it to your kitchen to take your meals to the next level.

Should you decide to order from our website mention this blog in your payment and we'll include a yummy sample for you to try.

REMINDER: You can send us a money order if you don't like to pay online. Just contact us thru the About Us page on our website and I'll send you the info.

My personal goals of non-smoking and weight loss are still going very well...surprising as it is. I have been thru some pretty stressful life situations without a ciggie as of late as I slowly slide into 1 month..............and chocolate (my second addiction) is something that I never thought I could give up and I haven't had any in quite some time. A piece of fruit tastes better and sweeter!!! The non-smoking I have done "cold turkey". I smoked for about 38 years. I chew lots of gum and also eat tootsie roll pops!! Now for the diet or new "eating plan" my hubby and I are both on Weight Watchers and both have lost right about 30 pounds. This new way of eating is very satisfying, the first few days were difficult and we thought we were starving to death but since then it hasn't been to bad. Before the "new way of eating" we both weighed more than we ever had and were well over 200. Now we feel better than we have in a long time. We are also walking most every day and that really helps. I have a very bad back and have to use a walker but it is getting easier and less painful.

Lots of "FUN" in the kitchen!!

Because we have so many delicious unique spice blends that we have ordered for our website we are having a great time here in our home kitchen. Chad, my husband, is a fabulous cook and loves to come up with his own recipes. And I'm just the one he can test them out on. The different curries are our favorite and so far Korma Curry Spice Blend is the winner. Very easy to use we had this on chicken cooked in the slow cooker the other night.

This curry
is the mildest and creamiest of all curries. Rich and warm, kids just love it. Try this one with pineapple chunks and juice combined with cream. It's finger-lickin' good! A blend of spices with a medium hot taste containing Coriander, Cinnamon, Paprika, Mustard, Cumin, Clove, Ginger, Cayenne, Black Pepper, Salt, Garlic, Spice Extracts.

One of the best things about our website is for those of you who don't like putting your credit card info online. We do accept money orders and personal checks. All you need to do is go to the Contact Us page of our website where there is a form to use to contact us. Just let me know what you are going to order and I'll send you my mailing address.

If you are interested in ordering here is the website:

Be sure to check my blogs this week for some great cooking tips. Also track my personal achievements of being among the non smokers for 3 weeks now and being on Weight Watchers for 3 months (loss of 32 pounds). The not smoking is definately the hardest of the two.

eBay

I forgot to mention that we no longer have our eBay store so any of those

link postings are no longer functioning.

Get Out Your Grill or Your Slow-Cooker

Hi everyone. Thanks for stopping by. I'm writing today about some really tasty new barbecue rubs/marinades that we now have for sale. Some of them are salt-free for those of us who are on a sodium restricted diet or are eating healthy, also no MSG, no Preservatives, etc.

East Meets West Barbecue Rub This beef rub is inspired by Wagon Calvary of West Settlers. This rub is influenced by the resourcefulness of American settlers as they traveled west and shared their spices among their fellow travelers in their wagon trains. The pungent taste is influenced by the oriental spices of Szechuan Peppercorns and Ginger, and the Chipotle Peppers and Aumac Berries, harmoniously blend the cultures to a very fragrant bold taste.

Features chipotle, brown mustard seeds, Szechuan peppercorns, ginger, orange, molasses, sumac berries, horseradish.

Salt Free!!! MSG Free!!! Gluten Free!!! Preservative Free!!!

2 ozs $3.95

We do have several rubs/marinades so check out our website. This Applewood rub is very popular and one of our favorites. The rubs work great for the outdoor grill as well as cooking in the slow cooker.

Applewood Smoke Barbecue Rub which
is the combination of the sweetest apple with a smoky flavor and is a real crowd pleaser. The ingredients of Applewood Smoke Rub are kept secret by our Midwest supplier but the comments of many customers attests to its popularity. It is also one of our personal favorites. Add this wonderful rub to anything you barbecue!
2 ozs (which is enough for quite a few meats/marinades). $3.95

FREE!!!!!!

Take this opportunity to place an order for over $25.00 and receive FREE shipping. It's almost time to fire up the "barby" so stock up on some great tasting unique Barbecue Rubs. These can be used on meats on the outdoor grill or indoor in the slow cooker. There are directions for use and some recipes so take advantage. We sell most things in multiples of 2 ounces. To get a good idea of how much 2 ounces is....a typical spice jar on your grocers shelf (i.e. McCormicks, Spice O' Life) are usually much less than 1 ounce. 2 ounces is quite a large quantity and will be enough for several recipes. We also offer salt-free barbecue rubs which in addition to being salt-free will not dry the meat out so cuts can be marinaded overnight.

Whatever you decide to try you will be very pleased!! I have included links to both our website and our eBay store. If you decide to order please do so from our website as eBay fees are very expensive for us. You can pay either with PayPal (debit,credit,e-check) or send us a money order thru the regular mail.
